Kabul to expand its Cayuse Warrior fleet

MD Helicopters has been awarded a US$1.38 billion contract for 150 MD 530F Cayuse Warrior helicopters, with the initial 30 bound for Afghanistan, the US DoD has announced.

The FMS contract for the single-engine, scout/light attack helicopter will bolster the existing Cayuse Warriors in the incumbent fleet of the Afghanistan Air Force.

While the Pentagon announcement only specified Afghanistan, MD Helicopters later noted the aircraft would be delivered to 'US and Partner Nation Army Aviation Forces in support of US Army foreign military sales opportunities'.

The contract announcement did specify that the figure of 150 helicopters was an ‘estimated quantity’
