Amid increased tension with Turkey, Russia will add six Ka-226T helicopters to existing forces deployed near its southern maritime borders in the Caspian and Black Seas.

According to a recent report by the Russian Federal Security Service (FSS), the new helicopters will be based on patrol ships currently operating in the Black Sea and will also focus on the protection of the coastal zone of Crimea. The new Ka-226T will be used for long-range patrol with the contract valued at 2.25 billion rubles (US$50 million).

Manufacturer Kamov has already begun deliveries and is expected to complete the process in 2016.
