Japan’s SH-X merits internal investigation
The Japan Maritime Self-Defence Force (JMSDF) had planned that development of its next-generation SH-X naval multipurpose helicopter would occur from 2015-20.
However, Defence Minister Gen Nakatani announced on 4 December a review by the Ministry of Defence’s (MoD) inspector general after allegations of collusion.
In 2012, the MoD had issues regarding the procurement of a next-generation multipurpose helicopter for the Japan Ground Self-Defence Force (JGSDF) and is therefore nervous about further cases of impropriety.
The MoD requires a JPY7 billion (US$57.5 million) budget for the initial development of the SH-X. Performance confirmation testing will be done up to 2022, and
