Industry calls for advanced funding/thinking for R&D plus S&T; but government stance already makes this unlikely

Philip Dunford, VP and GM Rotorcraft Systems, Boeing, voiced a warning during the Acquisition Round Table professional session at the AAAA conference last week that has worried many industrialists for some time – that the lack of funding for new helicopter projects is gradually choking-off research and development among the big helicopter OEMs.

“There have been only eight new start rotor projects in the last 50 years – with this narrowing to only two in the last 36 years,” he briefed.  There is no appetite or much hard cash for companies to begin their own self-funded research and development projects
