Indo Defence: First light attack helicopter delivered to Indonesian Army
The first Fennec helicopter for the Indonesian Army’s light attack squadron has been delivered by Airbus Helicopters it was announced on 6 November.
Twelve Fennec helicopters will be delivered in total, including six single-engine and six twin-engine versions. The fleet will bring the Indonesian Army light attack capabilities in a cost-effective aircraft and mission system package.
Under an industrial agreement with PT Dirgantara Indonesia, the mission equipment for the fleet – including machine guns and rocket launchers – will be installed by PT Dirgantara Indonesia at its in-country facilities in Bandung.
Deliveries will continue through 2016.
Philippe Monteux, head of region South East Asia & Pacific, Airbus Helicopters, said: ‘Indonesia’s acquisition of the Fennec demonstrates this helicopter family’s suitability for operations in a full range of conditions, providing a highly manoeuvrable and agile platform with low detectability.’
The Fennec helicopter is the militarized version of Airbus Helicopters’ Ecureuil rotorcraft family. It is deployed in performing combat, combat support, tracking, escort and training duties worldwide.
