India’s LCH to receive production go-ahead

India’s indigenous Light Combat Helicopter (LCH) is set to receive production approval before the end of November, after the project originally commenced in 2006.

Having completed all performance trials, final clearance is expected 'anytime soon' from the Centre for Military Airworthiness & Certification in Bangalore, a senior Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) official told The Hindu newspaper.

HAL noted that helicopters receive a final clearance, rather than the two-step initial and final operational clearances required for fixed-wing aircraft. This signoff will permit HAL to begin series production of the attack helicopter for the Indian Army and Indian Air Force (IAF).
