India’s first Apache, Chinook helicopters complete inaugural flights
Boeing has successfully completed the first flights of AH-64E Apache and CH-47F (I) Chinook helicopters which will be delivered to India in 2019, the company announced on 27 July.
India is procuring 22 AH-64E Apache attack helicopters and 15 CH-47F Chinook heavy-lift helicopters from Boeing to enhance its capabilities across a range of humanitarian and military missions.
The AH-64E Apache attack helicopters feature improved survivability and cognitive decision-aiding, enhanced performance and joint digital operability.
The Chinook multi-mission helicopter features the common avionics architecture system cockpit that provides pilots with enhanced situational awareness while reducing crew workload and enhanced levels of flight safety.
Chinook helicopters will be used to move troops, artillery, ammunition, fuel, water, barrier materials, supplies and equipment. Its secondary missions include disaster relief, SAR, aircraft recovery, medical evacuation, fire-fighting and parachute drops.
