India has kicked off a global search for naval multi-role helicopters (NMRH) to boost the Indian Navy’s (IN) anti-submarine warfare, anti-surface warfare and electronic warfare capabilities.

A fresh RfI for 123 twin-engine NMRHs, launched alongside one for 111 naval utility helicopters, was issued under the government’s ‘strategic partnership’ policy that seeks to build indigenous capabilities in collaboration with OEMs. Responses must be submitted by 6 October.

IN officials said the NMRHs will replace Sea King 42A/B/C variants and UH-3H helicopters riddled with deficiencies

Two configurations of the NMRH are being sought - one for multirole and one for special operations missions.
