India’s MoD issued an RfP earlier in May for the 200 Kamov Ka-226T helicopters that it plans to buy to replace geriatric light utility platforms being used by the Indian Army and Indian Air Force (IAF).

The RfP was despatched to India-Russia Helicopters Limited Company, the name given to the JV between Russian Helicopters and Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) that was created in May 2017.

The document specifies that the first 60 units will be acquired in flyaway condition from the Ulan-Ude plant in Russia (of which 40 will go to the army). The remainder are to be assembled locally
