India to buy 48 more Mi-17V-5s

Indian officials confirmed on 20 July that the Indian Air Force (IAF) will order 48 additional Mil Mi-17V-5 helicopters for an estimated sum of US$1.1 billion.

The IAF has sent its proposal to the Ministry of Defence (MoD) and a contract is expected to be signed next year. Such an order has been anticipated after Russian Helicopters CEO Alexander Mikheev said 'We are ready to send as many helicopters as needed' at the Aero India exhibition in Bengaluru in February.

Because the IAF already has 139 Mi-17V-5 helicopters ordered under two earlier government-to-government deals, this new contract is not expected
