India approves pursuit of naval helicopters

The Defence Acquisition Council (DAC) of India’s MoD accorded approval to the Indian Navy’s (IN) case for procurements of 111 Naval Utility Helicopters (NUH) at a cost of more than INR210 billion ($3.02 billion) and 24 MH-60R Multirole Helicopters (MRH) for shipborne anti-submarine, anti-surface roles.

Acceptance of necessity for the NUH was given on 31 October 2017, following an RfI issued on 22 August 2017 for the NUH and 123 Naval Multi-Role Helicopters (NMRH).

These two programmes are key to the IN’s efforts to bolster its helicopter fleet after years of tardy procurement.
