ILA 2010: Afghanistan proving need for CH-53K

The work being carried out by the fleets of CH-53Ds and CH-53Es in Afghanistan is 'validating' the need for their replacement, according to a US Marine Corps officer.
 
Speaking at the ILA Airshow in Berlin on 9 June, Marine Corps Major Jeff Davis, requirements officer for the CH-53K programme with PMA-261 of the US Navy's Air Systems Command, said the CH-53Ds and Es working out of bases such as Camp Bastion were 'validating all the requirements and proving the need for the new aircraft'.
 
Some 16 CH-53Es and 10 CH-53Ds are operating in Afghanistan in the heavy-lift role
