The Pentagon has published much anticipated details of its search for a new helicopter under the US Air Force's (USAF) UH-1N Iroquois helicopter replacement programme.

According to a request for information (RfI) released on 9 September, the USAF is seeking to replace 84 new helicopters of the same configuration. The air force's aim is to obtain an off-the-shelf in-production rotorcraft and for it to ‘enter acquisition at milestone C’.

The schedule currently provided envisages a contract being awarded in early FY18, while the first deliveries of the aircraft, at least two, are anticipated to take place early in FY19.
