Honeywell to provide auxiliary power unit for Canadian Forces' Chinook helicopters
Honeywell announced today that Boeing has selected the 36-150 Auxiliary Power Unit (APU) for CH-147 helicopters that will be delivered to Canada.
"Honeywell engines and auxiliary power units are powering helicopters around the world, but the Canadian Forces program marks the first selection of Honeywell's APU for a Chinook helicopter," said Vicki Panhuise, vice president, US Defense Customers, Honeywell Aerospace. "The Honeywell 36-150 provides 75% more electrical power allowing the Canadian Forces an expanded mission envelope. It also provides higher reliability and lower operating costs for a proven battlefield workhorse."
Honeywell will provide the 36-150 APU with first shipments beginning in 2011. Honeywell also provides the T55 engine for the Chinook helicopter. More than 6,000 T55 engines have been produced, flying more than 12 million hours worldwide.
An APU is a small turbine engine used for main engine starting, as well as providing electrical power to airframe and cockpit systems.
