HeliRussia 2016: Russia's Mi-38 buy

The Russian Ministry of Defence (MoD) has decided to place its initial order for the new Mi-38 heavy-class twin-engine helicopter in 2017.

According to Yury Borisov, the Russian deputy defence minister responsible for procurement, the contract is now in the preparation phase. He noted that currently Russian Helicopters can offer the Mi-38 in a transport configuration only; however, the Russian MoD will require expansion of its roles through the development of new versions.

Borisov hinted that there were plans discussed for developing a medical evacuation version as well as an electronic warfare derivative of the 15.6-tonne Mi-38. There is
