German parliament backs heavy-lift package

The German parliament has formally approved its defence ministry's €5.6 billion ($6.36 billion) heavy-lift acquisition budget package - a decision that dispels earlier suggestions that the programme could be hit by funding delays

Based on the assurance, Berlin intends on issuing industry with a RfP early next year, to be followed with a contract being agreed with either Boeing or Sikorsky by 2021. Between 45-60 new aircraft are expected to be purchased, replacing the aging CH-53G fleet.
