German Air Force nears modernisation decision

The German Air Force helicopter fleet will be experiencing a dramatic change in the next few years as the heavy helicopter project (STH) comes to fruition, Col Bernhard Martin, the air force’s deputy assistant chief of staff - capability management, told the IQPC International Helicopter Conference in January.

With STH, the air force hopes to soon fill some capability gaps, particularly in relation to special forces (SF) support. A few years ago Germany agreed to provide NATO with CSAR and SF support and identified gaps in its ability to do so.
