Slovakian aircraft repair company Trenčín (LOTN) has completed the general overhaul of the first Afghan Air Force (AFF) Mi-17V-5 helicopter, the Slovak Ministry of Defence (MoD) announced on 2 August.

The overhaul and heavy repair of the fleet is being completed under a contract awarded by the NATO Support and Procurement Agency in 2016.

Following the work, the helicopter made its first test flight in Slovakia as part of Stage 1 of the handover process. Stage 2 of the process has been completed in Afghanistan, where the helicopter returned in late July.

The multi-purpose, medium-lift helicopter Mi-17V-5 is designed to carry out missions including personnel transportation and for carrying cargo internally or on the external sling.

Further deliveries of the overhauled helicopters of this type to Afghanistan are scheduled for 2019.
