The 70mm laser-guidance rocket being developed by Thales subsidiary Forges de Zeebrugge (FZ) has completed a successful test firing campaign, the company announced on 27 November.

The FZ275LGR rocket firings were carried out in South Africa in late October from a Rooivalk helicopter in service with the South African Air Force.

According to Thales, the test firing confirms the reliability and maturity of the new rocket, which is being developed as a low-cost alternative to a missile.

The air-to-ground rocket shows precision to within one metre, and is designed to improve target engagement capabilities and reduce the risk of collateral damage, while reducing platform vulnerability.
