French to upgrade four more Cougars

The French DGA defence procurement agency ordered the upgrade of four Cougar helicopters on 26 October.

The four aircraft will include three from the army and one from the air force and will be upgraded under a €220 million overhaul contract awarded to Eurocopter in January 2008.

The aim of the Cougar refurbishment is to ‘maintain operational readiness’ of its helicopters in three areas: ensuring its avionics comply with regulatory developments of general air traffic; modernising its self-protection system to defeat anti-aircraft threats; and integrating the terminal information system for light aircraft of the army.
