French Air Force Puma aids shipwrecked fishing boat crew
A French Air Force Puma has come to the aid five people from a shipwrecked fishing boat off Biscarosse.
The aircraft from the 1/67 "Pyrénées" Squadron based at Cazaux Air Base was called in on January 21 to the aid of the fishing boat to resuce the five crew, including a Frenchman, three Spanish and one Portuguese man.
When the Puma arrived at the scene of the accident, a Squirrel helicopter from the police was already there and the four survivors had been recovered at sea and deposited on the deck of another trawler, which had also came to help the survivors.
Upon their arrival the Puma crew hoisted down a physician and medical equipment onto the trawler's deck to check the health of the men and provide first aid. After a check, the men were winched onto the Puma and flown to a hospital in Bordeaux.
