French Air Force carry out long range helicopter evacuation
The crew of a French Air Force Super Puma have carried out a long-range medical evacuation flight from a Pacific atoll.
The crew based at Faa'a on Tahiti flew a 1,200 nautical mile round trip to Vanavana on the Tuamotu Atoll on August 28 to collect a patient suffering from peritonitis. Because Vanavana has no runway, the Super Puma was the only aircraft capable of flying the long range mission.
The Air Force say that the pilots and mechanics of the overseas transport squadron have shown once again their daily commitment to serving the security and rescue the population of French Polynesia. They add that the Air Force Super Puma have proved an indispensable mission of public service, particularly effective in areas of difficult access.
