Franco-German partnership to offer new turboprop helicopter engine
Safran Helicopter Engines and ZF Aviation Technology have strengthened their partnership, with a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) to offer the new Ardiden 3TP turboprop engine for European military helicopters.
‘Through this partnership, Ardiden 3TP will be designed, built and supported by state-of-the-art industrial capabilities in Germany and France,’ noted Florent Chauvancy, EVP of OEM sales at Safran Helicopter Engines.
‘It represents a commitment to protect European interests on strategic fixed-wing programmes and will create future opportunities for export markets,’ he added.
The MoA, announced on 21 July, also confirmed ZF Aviation Technology as a strategic partner for the propeller reduction and accessory gearbox of the Ardiden 3TP engine.
This engine (the latest in the Ardiden range) will be developed through a technological demonstrator, which is now in an underground facility in France.
Ardiden 3TP will be optimised for operation at altitudes up to 45,000ft. It is based on the Tech TP research and innovation programme within the European Clean Sky 2 research initiative, to develop a new-generation turboprop.
