France receives two upgraded AS532 Cougars
The French General Directorate for Armament (DGA) took delivery of two upgraded AS532 Cougar helicopters for French Army Aviation on 13 March from Airbus Helicopters.
The upgrades are part of a modernisation programme awarded to Airbus Helicopters by the DGA. The programme covers 26 Cougar helicopters operated by the French Army Aviation, and includes upgrades such as a new avionics suite and an improved automatic pilot.
Under this programme, Airbus has upgraded and delivered three AS532 Cougars in 2013, and five more in 2014. In 2015, Airbus will deliver a total of seven upgraded helicopters.
The upgraded Cougar saw its first operational deployment in Mali in April 2014, as part of Operation Barkhane alongside the Tiger helicopter.
