First overseas deployment for Puma 2

The UK MoD’s Puma HC.2 helicopter has successfully completed hot and high flight trials during exercise ‘Hot Blade’ in Portugal, marking the first overseas deployment of the upgraded platform.

The Puma HC.2s are being put through hot weather training as part of the type’s work-up towards achieving initial operational capability in April 2015, after which it will be able to deploy to wherever it is required around the globe.

Portugal hosted the European Defence Agency-sponsored exercise at Ovar airbase in July, as part of its wider Helicopter Training Programme (HTP) initiative.
