The French Air Force (Armée de l'air) has completed its first operational air-to-air refuelling of an EC725 (H225M) helicopter, marking a significant capability enhancement for the service’s deployed ‘Caracal’ fleet.

Details of the refuelling flight, which took place at the end of October, were released by the French Ministry of Defence on 5 November.

An 11t Caracal helicopter from the air force’s ‘Pyrenees’ squadron (EH01.067), based at Chad’s N'Djamena airport, conducted the in-flight refuelling using a US Air Force C-130 ‘Hercules’ transport aircraft.

Photographs from the aerial refuelling show the probe-equipped Caracal receiving fuel from the C-130’s port
