FIDAE: Surplus Chinooks may head for South America

A significant portion of the 80 CH-47D helicopters that are being designated as surplus by the US Army are being targeting at South America, according to the manufacturer. 

A spokesman from Boeing told Shephard that four countries – Brazil, Chile, Colombia and one other – are interesting in the Chinook medium lift helicopter to add to their inventories. There are 18 countries worldwide that have expressed an interest in the CH-47Ds.

The spokesman said it was preferred to sell the aircraft in batches of six to provide a continuous capability with adequate training and maintenance. Therefore about 24 aircraft of
