Farnborough: Merlin MKII formally introduced to service

Lockheed Martin has used the Farnborough International Airshow to formally announce the early entry into service date of the Maritime Merlin HM Mk2.

The Royal Navy’s Merlin Mk2 helicopters recently completed a deep water anti-submarine warfare (ASW) and force protection exercise in the Atlantic Ocean, dubbed ‘Deep Blue’, which cleared the way for the aircraft to be formally introduced to service.

During Deep Blue, the Mk2 Merlin conducted two weeks of exercises totalling 480 hours of flight time shared across nine aircraft.
