Farnborough 2016: AW149 is now a butterfly with sting

Leonardo Helicopters is debuting an armed configured variant of its AW149 multirole military helicopter at the Farnborough International Airshow FIA (FIA 2016).

James Wang, senior VP of helicopters and services marketing at Leonardo Helicopters, said that over the next 12 months Leonardo Helicopters will undertake weapon system testing and solicit customers for the armed version of the AW149.

‘This is the first time we are building AW149s in two different configurations. We are making this [the AW149] a brand new 8.6 tonne multirole, military, battlefield helicopter,’ Wang said.

While there are currently no customer orders, Leonardo Helicopters remains optimistic that FIA
