Farnborough 2010: Raytheon joins the CIRCM chase

Raytheon has thrown its hat into the ring for the US Army’s Common Infrared Countermeasures (CIRCM) programme.

Speaking at the Farnborough International Air Show on 19 July, Raytheon’s vice president for directed energy, Mike Booen, said the company was offering its Scorpion system for the CIRCM requirement, which is seeking a new directed infrared countermeasures system to defend helicopters against man-portable air defence systems (MANPADS) and other heat-seeking munitions.

The Scorpion system combines Raytheon’s DIRCM pointer/processor developed for the Quiet Eyes system with an off-the-shelf quantum cascade laser.
