EW 2010: How do you solve a problem like a laser?

Later this week, the laser celebrates its 50th anniversary.

But while the laser has changed many of our lives for good, it's causing headaches for aviators in Afghanistan, and the German Army is urging other air arms to sit up and take notice over the laser threat affecting flyig operations there.

Lt Col Horst Rieker, an Electronic Warfare (EW) officer with the German Army's 25th Aviation Regiment speaking at Shephard's EW conference in Berlin this week says he is concerned that not enough people are taking the issue of lasers seriously. He says that several pilots have returned to Germany
