Eurosatory 2010: Eurocopter unveils new EC645

14th June 2010 - 16:02 GMT | by Tony Skinner in Paris

RSS

Eurocopter has publicly unveiled the new EC645 medium multirole helicopter, using the launch to display its Stand Alone Weapon System (SAWS) concept. A militarised version of the company’s EC145 helicopter, the EC645 responds to what Eurocopter sees is a gap in the 3.5-metric ton, utility category.

While the helicopter perhaps owes part of its conception to the US Army – the service is buying 345 EC145s in the form of the Lakota UH-72A while the AAS-72X is being pitched for the army’s Armed Aerial Scout requirement – the EC645 will be a fully militarised version available for international export.
