EDEX 2018: APKWS production set to surge

BAE Systems is set to increase the production of its Advanced Precision Kill Weapon System (APKWS) laser-guided rocket substantially next year.

Given the high usage of APKWS across the four US services and an expanding international customer base, the company was increasing production to meet this demand, BAE Systems APKWS business development manager Don Riffee said at the EDEX exhibition in Cairo.

‘By the end of the year we will have produced 25,000 APKWS over the past six years, but that is set to increase dramatically in 2019 when we will produce 20,000. That is due primarily to the US
