DefExpo 2016: Foreign OEMS want to join Indian rotary club

The Indian Armed Forces have tremendous helicopter needs, and foreign OEMs present at DefExpo 2016 were keen to join the action under the Buy and Make in India category.

Three major programmes are in the ‘throes of birth’. An RfI for the 4.5t-class Naval Utility Helicopter (NUH) requirement was issued last year for 112 rotorcraft to replace 86 Cheetaks in the Indian Navy (IN).

No RfP has been issued yet, but Finmeccanica (recently renamed Leonardo) will offer the Sea Lynx 300, Airbus Helicopters the AS565 MBe Panther, and Shephard understands Bell Helicopter will proffer the Bell 427.
