Chinese Z-20F ASW helicopter makes tantalising appearance

It is well known that one significant capability gap in the People’s Liberation Army Navy (PLAN) is an effective anti-submarine warfare (ASW) helicopter, but the Z-20F will soon fill that hole. Photos circulating recently on the Chinese internet showed a second example of a naval Z-20 that is apparently undergoing trials.

This second helicopter, a Z-20F (pictured), had a larger chin-mounted sea search radar than was seen on the naval helicopter that appeared in a photo on the Chinese internet last year. Indeed, this later helicopter appears outfitted specifically to fulfil the ASW role.
