Sikorsky has kicked-off its industrialisation plan to support its bid for the German Air Force heavy lift helicopter programme.

The company is offering the CH-53K King Stallion for the programme. If selected, in-service support for the fleet will be led by the Rheinmetall Group under a new agreement with Sikorsky.

Sikorsky's plans to optimise maintenance and repair for the German Air Force for future decades will also include input from companies including MTU, ZF Luftfahrttechnik GmbH, Autoflug, HYDRO Systems KG, Rockwell Collins Germany, Jenoptik, Hensoldt, Liebherr, and Rohde & Schwarz.

Dan Schultz, president of Sikorsky, said: 'The CH-53K is the most modern and capable heavy lift helicopter ever

built and has the ability to fly for the next 50 years performing ever expanding combat, humanitarian assistance and disaster relief missions.

'We look forward to our partnership with German industry to bring true heavy lift capability to every aspect of the German armed forces.'

Additional German defence companies are expected to join the team to contribute to the sustainment of the helicopter in Germany.
