Cazaux plays host to Exercise Red Devil
Units from the United States Air Forces in Europe are taking part in Exercise Red Devil at Cazaux Airbase in southwest France.
Three HH-60 Pave Hawk helicopters from the 56th Rescue Squadron and two MC-130P Hercules tankers have been training alongside the commandos from CPA 30 and the Puma and Caracal squadron of helicopters (EH) 1 / 67 'Pyrenees'.
"The goal of the exercise is to strengthen the interoperability capabilities of the French Air Force and U.S.," said Lieutenant-Colonel Fabrice Albrecht.
"It is also to prepare the deployment of the 56th Rescue Squadron in Afghanistan."
During the fortnight, the French and American aviators will conduct joint missions which may be found in the Afghan theater including tactical airlift evacuation of wounded personnel and joint personel recovery. The US helicopters also will practice aerial refueling with the MC-130P. Personel flying the Caracal from EH 1/67, should soon learn this skill also.
