CAE updates RCAF Griffon simulator
CAE has been awarded a contract to update the CH-146 Griffon helicopter full-motion flight simulator of the Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF). The $7.5 million contract was announced by the RCAF on 29 May.
Under the contract, CAE will conduct a major simulator update and visual system replacement to support the training of current and future Griffon aircrew. The simulator is located at the Gagetown, New Brunswick base.
The upgrades will be developed by CAE at its Montreal facility. The RCAF plans to have a simulation-focused training system designed to leverage advances in both technology and training methods by 2025.
The Bell CH-146 Griffon is a multi-use utility helicopter in service with the RCAF since 1995. Its primary role is that of tactical transportation of material and troops. It has also been used for search and rescue, casualty evacuation, humanitarian relief, counter-drug and surveillance and reconnaissance operations. It has a maximum capacity of 13 people, gross weight of close to 5,400kg and speed of 260kmph.
