The Brazilian Air Force and Helibras has evaluated the performance of the air force's Falcon Squadron M-36 Caracal helicopter, the air force announced on 4 February.

The Helibras M-36 Caracals were based at Bélem air base, where one of its fleet underwent specific operating conditions in the Amazon during 14 flights that were carried out in December 2014.

Patrik Correa, test pilot, Helibras, said: 'The operational evaluation of one of the units aimed to assess the aircraft, which performed very well in a real operating environment.'

The M-36 was fitted with a winch for rescue operations, side-firing machine guns, a fast rope for troop disembarking and a cargo hook for external loads during the evaluation phase. It tested the 7.62mm machine guns at the Brigadeiro Velloso proving ground in South Pará.

The M-36 Caracals are part of the H-XBR project, which covers the delivery of 50 Airbus HC EC725 Caracal helicopters for the air force, army and navy. A total of 15 have been delivered so far.
