Boeing will compete with MD in light attack market

Boeing has conceded it will have to compete with MD Helicopters on the light scout/attack helicopter market after the latter’s recent development of a militarised version of its MD 500 family.

The two companies have been at loggerheads after MD Helicopters unveiled the MD 540F in April 2012 and actively promoted it as an option for the US Army’s Armed Aerial Scout (AAS) programme.

Sources within Boeing later revealed that the company was considering legal recourse to prevent MD Helicopters from pitching the new variant against Boeing’s own AH-6i light attack helicopter.
