Boeing signed the second phase of a contract for providing support for 11 aircraft with the US Defense Logistics Agency (DLA), the company announced on 3 February.

The performance-based contract aims at reducing combat logistics support costs. Under the terms, Boeing will deliver support services for aircraft including the C-17 Globemaster III military transport aircraft and the AH-64 Apache attack helicopter.

Other aircraft covered include the B-52 Stratofortress, F/A-18 Super Hornet, and AV-8B Harrier. The contract also covers associated ground support equipment for the aircraft.

The contract is worth $223 million and is the second of two awards under a five-year agreement with the DLA signed in September 2014. Overall, the contract is valued at $516 million, and DLA can exercise a five-year follow-on option as well.

The C-17 Globemaster III is a high-wing, four-engine, T-tailed aircraft that can carry large equipment, troops and supplies to small airfields in harsh terrain directly. The AH-64 Apache is the army's most advanced multi-role combat helicopter at present, with two turbo-shaft engines and a maximum cruise speed of 284kph.
