Sikorsky’s Matrix, a capability tool kit that includes hardware and software as well as multi-spectral sensors to enable scalable automation, is now ready for its first flight onboard the S-70 Black Hawk.

Recent simulation demonstrations have also shown the technology’s functionality of obstacle avoidance during flight – a useful capability when applied to DVE conditions for rotary-wing pilots.

The Matrix programme sees the development of intelligent systems that will enhance crew safety through reliable flight either as an autonomous or optimally-piloted function.

The next step for the programme is to equip the Sikorsky Black Hawk with the Matrix technology.
