Bids invited for reopened VXX programme

The US Navy has called for proposals from industry to provide 21 aircraft to replace the existing presidential helicopter fleet – known as Marine One.

This is the second attempt by the navy to complete the Presidential Helicopter Replacement programme (VXX) after an earlier contract was cancelled in 2009 due to cost escalations. 

Under the new request for proposals (RFP) released on 3 May, the navy plans to award a fixed price incentive contract for an engineering, manufacturing and development (EMD) phase with production options in 2014.
