BAE Systems optimistic full Australian Black Hawk EWSP upgrade will proceed

BAE Systems Australia says it anticipates it will be required to deliver a full complement of new ‘Project Echidna’ phase 2A electronic warfare self protection (EWSP) suites for the Australian Army’s 34 Sikorsky S-70A-9 Black Hawk helicopters despite plans to progressively withdraw that aircraft type from service once sufficient numbers of the Eurocopter MRH-90 become operational.

BAE announced 8 July that it had successfully completed a second round of flight trials of the new EWSP suite, based around its proprietary ALR-2002 radar warning receiver and suite controller, in a podded configuration beneath a Learjet aircraft.
