Bad news for Philippine Air Force as UH-1 contract cancelled

The Philippines has cancelled a contract to obtain 21 second-hand Bell UH-1 helicopters for the Philippine Air Force (PAF), the government confirmed on 17 April.

The reason given was late delivery by contractor Rice Aircraft Services and Eagle Copters, who had formed a joint venture to supply the aircraft.

Communications secretary Herminio Coloma Jr confirmed to the press that defence secretary Voltaire Gazmin 'terminated the contract and issued a blacklisting order against the supplier’.

Cancellation of the deal, worth approximately PHP1.26 billion (US$28 million), is unfortunate for the PAF, which has been trying for years to build up its depleted
