AVX remains in the FVL race

Following successful wind-tunnel testing of its coaxial, compound design, AVX remains bullish about its involvement in the US Army’s Future Vertical Lift (FVL) programme.

The wind tunnel testing of a scale model of the company’s Compound Coaxial Helicopter (CCH) design was completed in February at the Texas A&M University wind tunnel.

‘We have a contract [with the US Army] which funds us to conduct three studies,’ Troy Gaffey, CEO and chief engineer at AVX told Shephard, ‘The first one is essentially complete where we refined the aerodynamics of the body and the fuselage, made sure we had adequate control surfaces
