Austria searches for Kiowa replacement

The Austrian Air Force could be one home for unwanted ex-US Army OH-58D Kiowa Warriors, following the service’s decision to move forward with the replacement of its current fleet. 

Originally delivered from 1975, the Austrian Air Force’s OH-58s have had continuous minor updates to their navigation/communication equipment and been equipped with a FLIR for reconnaissance missions.

However, they will reach the end of their service life from 2020 so the replacement with a new light, armed utility helicopter is becoming increasingly pressing, according to the commander of the Air Support Brigade of the Austrian Air Force.
