Australian Seahawk replacement now urgent says new defence white paper

Australia's planned acquisition of a replacement fleet of maritime combat helicopters will be baselined on 24 new aircraft with acquisition to occur as a "matter of urgency" according to Australia's new defence white paper, issued 2 May.

The white paper, the first issued by Australia in nine years, says the 24 helicopter fleet, being acquired under Project Air 9000 Phase 8, is intended to allow for "eight or more aircraft concurrently embarked on ships at sea.
