Australian Black Hawk makes hard landing

An Australian Army Sikorsky S-70A-9 Black Hawk helicopter has made a heavy landing during night flying training in support of ongoing peace keeping operations in East Timor.

The Australian Department of Defence says that the aircraft was “landing at its International Stabilisation Force (ISF) base at Dili Airport when the incident occurred. The aircraft was operating in good weather conditions at the time of the incident.”

The aircraft has “sustained damage to its tail shaft”.

An investigation has been launched into the incident.
