Australia preparing for Black Hawk EWSP flight tests

The Australian Army plans to begin flight testing of one of its Sikorsky S-70A-9 Black Hawk helicopters upgraded with the BAE Systems Australia ALR-2002 radar warning receiver and suite controller in December, with ground trials of the installation now underway.

But plans for fitting the service’s six Boeing CH-47D Chinook medium lift aircraft with ALR-2002 system have been terminated according to project briefing papers released last week as part of Australia’s defence budget for financial year 2009-2010.

The budget papers confirm that the prototype Black Hawk installation was carried out late in 2008 as part of Australia’s long running project
